Privacy Policy
Tarboro Pawn respects your privacy. This Policy explains what information we collect when you use this website and how we protect it. For our financial-customer Gramm–Leach–Bliley Act privacy notice (which applies if you take a pawn loan from us), see /legal/glba.
What we collect
When you submit an offer request
- Your name, email, and phone number (so we can send the offer).
- Photos of your item and a description.
- Your North Carolina ZIP code (to confirm eligibility).
When you accept an offer
- You confirm by phone (one-time code sent via SMS) that the phone number you gave us is reachable. We do not collect your ID through the website.
- ID is captured in person at the shop when you bring the item in. Required by NCGS § 91A pawnbroker law. We store the ID number, expiration, name, address, and DOB on your customer record (encrypted at rest).
When you buy from the storefront
- Your name and email.
- A pickup confirmation (online purchases are pickup-only).
- We do not collect or store payment card data.Online payments are processed by PayPal; we receive only payment-confirmation details from PayPal.
Automatically
- IP address and basic device/browser metadata for security and abuse prevention.
- Site usage analytics (no third-party advertising trackers).
How we use your information
- To respond to your offer request — review photos, prepare a conditional offer, send it to you, and schedule pickup.
- To complete a sale — confirm payment, prepare the order for pickup, and notify you when ready.
- To comply with the law — North Carolina pawn statute requires we collect identification at pickup. Federal law (Bank Secrecy Act) requires we report cash-equivalent transactions over $10,000.
- To protect the Site and our shop — detect fraud, theft, and stolen property.
How we protect your information
- All traffic is encrypted with TLS 1.3.
- Identification images and personal-identifier data are encrypted at rest with AES-256.
- Payment card data never touches our servers — PayPal hosts the checkout and we receive only confirmation details.
- Access to identification data is logged and limited to employees on duty at the time of your pickup.
How long we keep your information
- Offer requests we declined or that expired:photos and contact details retained 90 days, then permanently deleted.
- Completed pawn transactions: retained for the statutory 7-year period required by NC pawn law and the Bank Secrecy Act.
- Online sales: retained for 7 years to satisfy NC sales tax and accounting requirements.
Your rights
You may request a copy of the personal information we hold about you, request corrections, or request deletion (subject to legal retention obligations). Contact us to exercise these rights.
Text messages (SMS)
When you sign in or request a code, we send one-time verification codes by text. If you also give us your mobile number and opt in on a form, you may receive text messages about that interaction — depending on what you opt into, these can include appraisal and offer updates (offer sent, approved, pickup scheduled), order and pickup confirmations, and payment-status updates. We only send the categories you opted into, and consent to receive texts is not a condition of any purchase or service.
- Message frequency varies with your activity — typically 1–4 messages per offer and 1–3 per order, plus verification codes when you request them.
- Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile carrier and plan.
- To opt out, reply STOP to any message at any time; reply HELP for help. You can also contact us to be removed.
- Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.
We do not sell, rent, or share your mobile phone number, your SMS opt-in, or your consent with any third parties or affiliates for their own marketing or promotional purposes. Mobile opt-in information is used solely to deliver the messages you requested, and is disclosed only to the service providers that help us send them (for example, our SMS gateway) under contract and only for that purpose.
Cookies and tracking
We use only essential cookies needed for the Site to function (session, CSRF protection, OTP rate limiting). We do not use third-party advertising cookies and do not sell your data.
